The Renovation Project
The renovation of the Hotel Splendide Venezia in Cortina by studio Marincola is almost a tribute to the principles of circular architecture, based on reuse, conservation and well-being.
The historic building of the hotel is now re-proposed in a contemporary guise while maintaining the character and materials of traditional Alpine architecture, made with extensive use of wood.
Fir wood, an obligatory mention of the forests surrounding Cortina, is also the protagonist in the new project. The irregular shape of the original volume is marked by the presence of a series of vertical wooden elements which, with greater or lesser density, envelop the structure in an ideal forest and give unity to the facades, characterised by a series of projecting balconies.
Slender and elegant in its new form, the building with a slight overhang, almost appears to “float” on a glazed plinth, made up of a continuous ribbon of transparent panels which allows the fluid passage of light between inside, outside connecting with the surrounding landscape.
